Privacy policy · App 01

Petrol Scout privacy, plainly.

Petrol Scout finds nearby fuel prices and plans routes around the cheapest stops. No account needed — the app works anonymously. This page explains what data we use and why.

Last updated: 23 April 2026 · Version 1.0
The short version. Petrol Scout uses your location to find nearby stations and plan routes. No account is required. We use PostHog for anonymous analytics, Mapbox for routing, and RevenueCat for subscriptions. We don't sell your data or build profiles.

Who we are

Petrol Scout is operated by Studio Popix ("we", "us"). Questions? Write to hello@studiopopix.com.

No account required

Petrol Scout doesn't require you to create an account. The app works anonymously — we don't collect your name, email address, or any other identifying information.

What we collect

1. Location

We request foreground location permission to find fuel stations near you and to plan routes. Your location is used at the moment of the request to query our aggregation server and mapping services. We don't build a history of where you've been.

Location is also shared with Mapbox to generate route directions and render the map. Mapbox processes this under their own privacy policy at mapbox.com/legal/privacy.

2. Route data

When you plan a route, your start point, destination, and corridor preferences are sent to Mapbox to calculate directions and to our server to find stations along the way. Route data is not stored once the response is returned.

3. Preferences stored on your device

Your fuel type preference, search radius, and corridor width are saved locally on your device using AsyncStorage. These don't leave your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud or Google Drive backup at the OS level.

4. Analytics — PostHog

We use PostHog to collect anonymous, aggregated usage events (for example, "route search performed" or "filter applied"). Events don't include your location or any personal identifier.

5. Crash reports — Sentry

We use Sentry to collect crash reports. If the app crashes, Sentry sends us a technical diagnostic — device model, OS version, and stack trace. No location or preference data is included. See sentry.io/privacy.

6. Subscriptions — RevenueCat

If you subscribe to Petrol Scout Premium, purchases are processed by Apple or Google. RevenueCat acts as an intermediary to manage subscription state using an anonymous device identifier — it does not collect your name, email address, location, or search history. See revenuecat.com/privacy.

Fuel price data

Prices come from the UK government's Fuel Finder scheme, aggregated by our backend server hosted on Railway. Your queries reach this data via our server, not directly from your device, which means the scheme sees our server's IP address rather than yours.

What we don't collect

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold. Because Petrol Scout operates anonymously and stores almost nothing server-side, in most cases "deletion" means uninstalling the app. For anything else, email hello@studiopopix.com and we'll respond within 30 days.

Children

Petrol Scout isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Petrol Scout handles data, we'll update this page, bump the version number at the top, and show a notice in-app before the change takes effect.
